Volunteer With US

The Lavender Library is a 100% volunteer-run organization and we need your help!

As a volunteer organization, we rely on committed community members to catalog books, host events, work circulation shifts, and do everything else that’s necessary to keep our doors open.

FAQs

  • We typically host one volunteer on-boarding orientation each quarter. A representative from our Engagement Committee will reach out to you by email to encourage you to submit an application in advance of our on-boarding orientation!

  • A volunteer shift at the Library typically includes welcoming patrons, helping folks check out materials, and keeping our space neat and welcoming.

Once you attend our orientation and serve your initial training shifts, you’ll be added to our volunteer Slack community, where you will be able to connect with other volunteers, learn about special events, committees, and other opportunities to volunteer with the Library.

  • Volunteers under the age of eighteen are required to have a parent or guardian present while volunteering and will need to have a signed waiver on file.

  • We aim to be flexible and have several opportunities for folks to volunteer in person and virtually.

While we welcome all volunteers, right now we are trying to increase our people power to extend our hours. If you can volunteer for two library shifts per month, that would be amazing!

  • Yes! It takes a lot of work to keep the Library running and a lot of it can be done from home.

Think fundraising, grant writing, social media, and website management. Do you have skills to share? Let us know during your volunteer orientation training and we’ll connect you to the appropriate leads.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Lavender Library. We can’t wait to meet you!

“I love volunteering at LLACE because of the amazing community created by our volunteers & patrons! It’s super special being in a place that’s filled to the brim with queer media, and I love being able to share that with others. Plus, it’s fun! ”
